The high school football season opens Friday night and our final preseason stop takes us to Magna Vista where the Warriors advanced to the third round of the playoffs last season before losing to Northside.
Joe Favero returns just seven starters off that team, but it's a team that could contend late in the year.
“The first year we went 0-10. The kids in the offseason really bought in and since then we've been 50 or 60 kids in the weight room all summer all off-season getting better, and the kids really bought into a team system and believing in each other and playing hard on Friday nights. Fortunately we've been successful and won some games the last couple of years,” Favero said.
Magna Vista has won 11 games in three of the last four seasons. Shoalin McGuire returns at quarterback after throwing for 2,400 yards last year, as does 1,000-yard rusher Jacqez Hairston.
“All summer we've been working hard and in practice and doing 7-on-7 every week and getting ready for the season,” wide receiver George Ramey said.
