Richlands at Lord Botetourt
Richlands made the long bus ride from Tazewell County to Daleville this week. Greg Mance had built a perennial power with the Blue Tornado, but this year's edition entered the game with the Cavs, battling some injuries. Botetourt head man Jamie Harless knew all about Richlands from his days as a player at Abingdon and as the defensive coordinator at Cave Spring two years ago when the Knights ousted the Blue Tornado in the postseason.
LB came into the game boasting a 3 and 0 record, having out-scored their opponents 126-16 so far this season. A big reason for their success has been the bruising runningback Chris Thompson. He capped-off their opening drive with the 5-yard touchdown run. They went for 2 and made it an 8-0 lead.
On the next Cavs possession, it was Thompson again. This time he got the ball deep in their own territory and took-off down the sideline, out-running 3 defenders, and he was in for the 73-yard touchdown. They went for 2 again to made it a 16- nothing lead.
Richlands had nothing to counter with on offense as LB's Austin Oyler stepped-in and picked-off River Michael's pass as their 31.
Then on the very next play, Thompson made them pay for that turnover, running the ball in from 32 yards out.
Thompson had 300 yards rushing in the first half alone as Botetourt rolled to the 56- nothing win.
