GRETNA, Va. -

The Gretna Hawks were held without an offensive touchdown last week in a surprising road loss to Blacksburg.  This week Coach Kevin Saunders and company returned home to face a Dan River team that had won five out of its last six and was wrapping up the regular season at the Hawks Lester Bond Field

Gretna was trying to bounce back from last weeks loss against Blacksburg. They've owned Dan River in recent history-- prior to last year the Hawks had won 13 straight over the Wildcats.

Meanwhile Dan River a hot team looking for a win to close out the regular season and rest up in week 11 before the playoffs begin.

Gretna in their final home game of the season trying to avenge last seasons loss to Dan River and possibly improve their seeding heading into the 2A playoffs. Kevin Saunders was trying to get the hawks pumped up early.

In the 1st quarter-- the punt got tipped by a Gretna defender but they fumbled the recovery and Dan River would take over.

The Wildcats made them pay-- Terrell Edmunds with the carry goes around the outside and he was gone all the way 51 yards into the endzone. The extra point failed but Dan River goes up 6-0.

After downing them at the one-- the Wildcats with the miscue-- the snap was fumbled. It was picked back up and fumbled again where Gretna fell on it they would take over at the one yard line.

Dyon Rosser called his own number, plows ahead, and tied it up at 6 with the p-a-t no good.

Just before half with 7 second left-- the pitch to Terrell Edmunds who threw it deep to his brother Tremaine Edmunds who grabbed it for the touchdown. Dan River took a 14-6 lead into  the half.

During halftime, Gretna released dozens of balloons into the air for 14 month old Clara Parker who is suffering from leukemia.

Out of the half-- more Dan River que Stephens breaks through the line and takes it 67 yards for the score. The Wildcats were starting to pull away.

Gretna was looking for some magic through the air. Dyon Rosser threw it deep and Terrell Edmunds there with the interception as they'd add one more score late in the fourth, Dan River topped Gretna 27-6.

Ferrell Edmunds, "All week the kids had a lot of intensity they were fired up and all year we've been working for this in the regular season and tonight the kids came to play they definitely came to play today." 

Terrell Edmunds, "It feels great. I just love my team and i think this clinched us at least two home games so that's a great feeling to be on our home field. It's just great." 

Kevin Saunders, "It's an important win next week but we have to get healthy first. We came into tonight's game unhealthy and we got more unhealthy during the game so we just have to figure out how we're going to get back healthy."
