In Altavista, Juan Thornhill and the Colonels faced another test against Sussex Central in the 1A East second round.

The Altavista crowd was showing the Colonel Pride tonight.

Thornhill got things off to a good start on the first possession. He called his own number and toted the mail on a 42 yard run, carving up the Sussex defense to put the Colonels up 7 to nothing early in the first quarter.

The Colonels defense then did its job.  Tigers quarterback Deqwandre Jones went to the air, but it was intercepted by Altavista's Demitre Maulbeck to put the Colonels back on the attack.

Destin Brown made good on the next play.  He found a hole and rumbled 34 big yards for a touchdown and it was a two score advantage for Altavista.

The visitors needed a big play and they got it on the next possession. Running back Michael Jarrett took the rock and he was off to the races.  Jarrett ripped off an 82 yard gallop to the house to get Sussex on the board at 14 to 7..

But Thornhill had an answer.  He came right back with a huge play of his own for his second score of the night.  The UVA commit is going 62 yards to the zone.

It was 35 to 12 at the half, and Altavista moved on by beating up on Sussex Central 49 to 12.
