GRETNA, Va. -

Virginia High made the long trip from Bristol this week to face the Gretna Hawks.  The Bearcats are coached by Michael Crist, the son of Blacksburg Head Coach Dave Crist, whose team knocked off the Hawks just a few weeks ago.

No doubt, father and son shared some intel over the phone this week leading up to the matchup at Lester Bond Field in Gretna.

The Hawks were riding some momentum coming-off a big shut-out win over Nelson County last week to wrap-up the regular season, and kicking-off the playoffs at home.

Gretna was up 31-24 but just before the half the Bearcats cut that deficit to 2. Justin Brown got the ball and was in from 10 yards out. It was 33-31 Gretna at the break.

Ahead to the third, Virginia's Derrick Lee got in from 5 yards out. The Bearcats got the 2-point conversion and took the 39-33 lead.

The Hawks were trying to get back out front with a drive starting from their own 4. Dyon Rosser aired it out to Virgil Glass for a huge gain down to the Virginia 18 yard line.

Gretna got inside the 5, going for it on 4th down. Rosser was trying to make a play. He made a last-second pass which was picked-off by Lee. He returned it all the way for the touchdown but it was called back after a block in the back.

Virginia High went on to win it 45-40.
