MONETA, Va. -

The William Byrd Terriers made the short trip out route 24 to face Staunton River this week.  Staunton River was celebrating its 50th year as a school in 2013 but the Eagles football team hasn't had much to celebrate over the first month of the season.

The class of 1963 was back at the school tonight but the Terriers were out to spoil the festivities.

William Byrd wasted no time getting things started when Zac Hill took off on a nice gainer around the left end.  He sliced and diced through the Golden Eagles defense and got the ball all the way to the Eagles four yard line.

Simeon Horstman then took it in for the short touchdown, diving over and  putting Byrd on the board 7 to nothing.

Staunton River answered. Jakob Divers got it downfield breaking tackles along the way and lived up to his last name diving across the goal line for a Staunton River T-D.

The Eagles missed the extra point making the score 7 to 6.

On Byrd's next posession Simeon Horstman broke through the line deep into Staunton River territory and Chuck Poston was looking for answers.

Horstmann again powered it up the middle for another Byrd touchdown making it 14 to 6 William Byrd.

L-J Williams then got in on the act.  He scored another Byrd TD to make it 21 to 6.

Staunton River hoped to get things going on their next possession but Ramir Hunt decided to take to the air. He was picked off by William Byrd's Joshua Marcus. That led to another Williams score and Byrd whipped Staunton River 49 to 13.
