Virginia Tech junior forward C.J. Barksdale has been suspended for the Hokies’ first three games of the season for violating team rules.

The 6-foot-8, 235-pound Barksdale is from Danville. He attended Hargrave Military Academy. Last season Barksdale averaged 5.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He started 30 games in 2012-13.

Barksdale will be able to practice with the team during his suspension.

"I am disappointed in C.J.," Virginia Tech men's basketball coach James Johnson wrote in a news release. "He is a young man who made a bad decision and now must deal with the consequences. I know that he will come back fro this suspension and continue to be a valuable member of this program."

Virginia Tech’s first three games are all at Cassell Coliseum. Barksdale will sit out games against USC Upstate (noon, Nov.9), West Virginia (1 p.m. Nov. 12), and Western Carolina (7 p.m., Nov. 15).

He will be eligible to play against VMI on Nov. 18 in Blacksburg.
