Umpires halted the summer-solstice game in Fairbanks following the completion of the 10th inning at about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, with the Alaska Goldpanners and the Oceanside Waves tied at one run apiece. Players said they couldn't see the ball amid light rain at the time of the announcement, and the weather worsened in the ensuing 30 minutes.
The game will resume at Growden Memorial Park at 6 p.m. Wednesday night, preceding a scheduled contest between the Goldpanners and Waves.
The Midnight Sun Game is played annually in Fairbanks on the longest day of the year, beginning at 10:30 p.m. and contested entirely without the benefit of artificial lights.
