Carolina League Divisional Playoffs: The Salem Red Sox and the Potomac Nationals both advance to the Mills Cup Championship Series.
The Red Sox battled-back from a 3-0 deficit against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to tie the game in the 5th. The game remained tied at 3 through 9 innings and for the second-straight night, the two teams needed extra innings to decide a winner. Matt Gedman hit the sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th to score Mookie Betts, giving the Sox the 4-3 lead. Virginia Tech product, Matt Price retired the side in the bottom of the 10th to seal the win for Salem.
In the Carolina League Northern Division, the Potomac Nationals defeated the Lynchburg Hillcats 3-2 in another dramatic finish. Tied at 2 in the bottom of the 9th, Potomac’s Will Piwnica-Worms came-up with the walk-off RBI single, driving-in Kevin Keyes. The Hillcats’ season comes to an end, while the Nationals advance to face Salem in the Mills Cup Finals.
Appalachian League Championship: The Pulaski Mariners sweep the Greeneville Astros in the best of 3 series to win the Appy League Title. Pulaski trailed 5-0 by the third inning, but chipped away at the plate to tie the game at 5 by the 6th inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Gabrial Franca connected with a single to right, scoring Luke Guarnaccia. The Mariners walk-off with the 6-5 win over the Astros, as the new Appy League Champions.
