Albemarle County police say no one was injured when a rabid bear attacked people in a utility terrain vehicle near Rockfish Gap.
Authorities said Thursday that the occupants in the April 17 attack ran from the vehicle as they were chased by the bear. They were able to get away when one of them shot it.
The Daily Progress reports that the bear's head was removed and tested positive for rabies,
Officials have confirmed that none of those involved were directly exposed to rabies.
