Plans to build a fishing tournament facility are on track for the Twin Ridge area of Philpott Lake.
The Army Corps of Engineers, memebers of the Franklin County board of supervisors and four other organizations signed an agreement Thursday to provide sponsorship or funding for the building.
"This is what the tournament really needs," said "Rocky" Craig Rockwell, operations project manager with the lake. "It will not only be good for the tournament but for everyone else on the lake because of its multiple uses."
The facility expect to be completed in March will have a launch dock, extra fishing room on extended piers, a picnic shelter, and a weigh station.
Rockwell tells News7 previous tournaments were crowded, boaters had to wait close to an hour for access to the lake.
This isn't a small undertaking. The project will cost $200,000 dollars but it will be put to good use.
"This is one of the most significant things we are working on," Rockwell said.
A marina could be in the works after the tournament facility is built.
