Baseball: Sweep lifts East Jordan to 6-2 in Lake Michigan Conference

The wins lifted East Jordan to 9-3 overall, 6-2 league.
Game-one winner Austen Mellios struck out 10, walked two and allowed three hits.
Skyler Gibson and Tim Schutt had two hits apiece for the Red Devils, while Jordan Harasewicz doubled, and Mellios, Zak Shepard and Aaron Peck each singled.
Shepard and Schutt each had an RBI.
“The infield defense was very good again,” East Jordan coach Al Stallard said. “Matt Bolser had three clutch singles. Great team effort.”
Bosler, an emergency starter in the nightcap, struck out seven and allowed five hits for the win. The Red Devils staked him to a 6-0 lead after two innings.
“We lost Jordan Harasewicz to a sprained ankle in game one, and Matt Bolser stepped in to take his place and pitched a gem in game two,” Stallard said. “It was great to see everyone respond and play well after losing a key player.”
Peck had two hits and two RBI, while Wyatt Werner doubled, and Shepard and Skylar Gibson each singled. Shepard and Werner each picked up an RBI.
Harbor Springs 10-2, Pickford 0-1
HARBOR SPRINGS — Scott Morse and Ean Walda combined to strike out 28 and allow just three hits Friday as Harbor swept a non-league doubleheader, improving to 6-4-1.
Morse struck out 13 in tossing a one-hitter in the opener. Adam Sydow had three hits, Jake Hickman singled and doubled, and Morse had two hits to lead the Rams at the plate.
Colton Heiler, Ryan Cantrell and Skyler Shelton added a hit apiece for Harbor.
Walda, a sophomore right-hander, struck out 15 in tossing a two-hitter in the nightcap. He walked three.
Morse, Hickman, Emmet Fineout and Nate VanSloten each singled for Harbor.
Rambers fall in consolation
BOYNE CITY — Newberry scored the winning run on a one-out bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth (final) inning Saturday for a 1-0 win over Boyne City in the consolation game of the Boyne Baseball Invitational.
The Ramblers went 1-2 on the day. They opened with a 10-3 loss to Cheboygan, then defeated Gaylord, 13-12.
Cheboygan defeated the Traverse City West JV, 8-0, in the championship game. Cheboygan finished 3-0 on the day, while West was 2-1.
