INDIAN RIVER — Corey Redman scored 23 points and added 11 rebounds to lead the Ramblers past Inland Lakes, 56-35, Thursday in a non-league game.
With the win, Boyne City improves to 3-5 overall.
Brad Fouchia added 13 points and seven assists for Boyne City, while Maceo Vroman had 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Ramblers shot 20-of-52 (38 percent) from the floor and collected 17 steals, led by Fouchia and Vroman who each added five steals.
Boyne City coach Nick Redman enjoyed with win, but knows the Ramblers have to continue to get better in order to make a move in conference play.
“We’re glad to come out with the win,” he said. “They (Inland Lakes) played real good. We just need to keep working on our skill and execution. We need to get better bench play, too.”
The Ramblers got off to a fast start on the road, cruising to a 15-4 first quarter lead.
Inland Lakes, 0-6, made things interesting in the second quarter, scoring 13 points to cut the deficit to 25-17 at halftime.
“For us to stay with them for 18 to 20 minutes, it’s huge for us,” Inland Lakes coach Joe Mahoney said. “This is a huge confidence boost for us.”
The Ramblers would then pull away in the second half as Redman scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half.
“Hat’s off to Redman,” Mahoney said of Boyne City’s sophomore. “He’s going to be a heck of a player.”
Cody Bonilla and Todd Athey each scored seven points for the Bulldogs.
Dakotah Davedowski added six points.
NMCA 75, Alanson 48
BURT LAKE — Aaron Chatfield scored a game-high 37 points, added 10 assists, 10 rebounds and five steals as Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian Academy (NMCA) rolled past Alanson Thursday in a non-league contest.
Also for NMCA, Robert Taylor added 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Jake Lovitt had nine points.
For Alanson, 1-4 overall, Kody Wicker scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Eagles led at each quarter break including at halftime, 31-14.
NMCA outscored the Vikings, 29-16, in the third to take a commanding lead, 60-30, entering the fourth.
