MARTINSVILLE, Va. -

North Carolina football coach Larry Fedora will be the honorary pace car driver for the March 30 NASCAR race at Martinsville Speedway.

Fedora was hired as the Tar Heels’ coach in 2012 amid NCAA sanctions. He led UNC to an eight-win season and a victory in the Belk Bowl in 2013.

Fedora said he fell in love with racing during a trip to Martinsville Speedway last spring.

“Last year at Martinsville was my first short-track race and it was phenomenal,” Fedora wrote in a news release from Martinsville Speedway. “That’s where it’s at. It’s non-stop action all the time. It’s exciting and high-tempo. It’s pretty special at Martinsville.”
