SALEM, Va. -

The Roanoke Valley Horse Show gets under way from the Salem Civic Center Monday.

The horse show has been around since 1972 and brings horse enthusiasts from across the region to Salem and the Roanoke Valley to compete in a variety of events.

Every year, the show features Hunter, Jumper, Racking, Roadster, Saddlebred.

More than $250-thousand dollars in total cash and prizes are awarded throughout the week.

The show runs through the 21st with some events starting Monday that should bring a lot of excitement to the Salem Civic Center as the event continues to stay popular among the Roanoke Valley.

It all culminates Saturday night with the annual Grand Prix at 8:30 pm. The winner takes home a cool $50,000 pay day.
