The Spectrum Sports Academy in Roanoke hosted a 2-day Ultimate Softball Showcase Clinic, which ran Saturday from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., with the same times scheduled for Sunday. The sessions focused on position-specific drills, led by some of the top softball names not only local but across the country, including Cal Berkley's Diane Ninemire and Longwood's head coach Kathy Riley to name a few.
"Whenever you can attract people you can help populate different programs that we want to run throughout the year,” said Spectrum Director of Baseball and Softball, Darren Hodges. “We just want to raise the visibility of Spectrum and I think attracting coaches from a national level-- not just locally-- helps with that. We’re working on hitting. We have about 4 or 5 different hitting stations. We have infield/ outfield play, catching stations, pitching stations and each player gets to go to every position if they would like or they can go to position specific and just stay with one position."
