The Friday Football Extra preview bus pulled into Bedford on Monday to check in with the Liberty Minutmen who fell in a heartbreaking loss last season to Magna Vista in the opening playoff round.

Coach Chris Watts is loaded at the skill positions with running backs Matthew Smith and Devin Carper returning along with quarterback Austin Porter.

"We've got a good number of our skill kids returning, from last year. Pretty much all of the skill kids have been with us for a while. We're just young up front, we've got some good sized kids some hard working kids they're just not real battle tested right now. That was one of the problems we had at the end of last year, a kid would run a touchdown in then play the kickoff and go out there and play defense against Magna Vista so if that's what we have to do, we've got to be in better shape than we were last year," said Coach Watts.

The Minutemen saw scrimmage action this past weekend against Spotswood and Dan River.

Finding some depth has been a focus in the preseason as well as a priority on finishing games down the stretch.

"We're just trying to get back in the groove and get everything to where we know what we're doing again to where we don't make any mistakes," said Danny Orange.

"You know we were one score away in every loss last year or one score that we should have had on offense and turned it over or one stop we should have made on defense. We could have finished the season undefeated but that doesn't' matter, what matters it what ends up on the scoreboard," said Coach Watts.
