Two Virginia Tech football players get preseason honors

Logan Thomas and James Gayle both have been recognized

College football practice is less than a month away for teams across the country and Monday, two Hokies got some preseason recognition.

Quarterback Logan Thomas begins his senior season on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the best player in college football. Logan is trying to bounce back from a tough 2012 when he threw for 18 touchdowns and tossed 16 interceptions. He accounted for 3,500 yards of offense and is one of eight ACC players on the list.

Teammate James Gayle has been named to the watch list for the Bednarik Award for the nation's best defensive player. Gayle is one of ten players on the list coming off a season that included 43 tackles, including five sacks.
