CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -

University of Virginia basketball player Taylor Barnette is leaving the team.

The sophomore guard told coach Tony Bennett that he is transferring to find a bigger playing role at another school.

Barnette averaged 2.6 points in 26 games during his freshman year at UVA during the 2012-13 season. The 6-foot-3 Lexington, Kentucky, native had a career-high 13 points in a 68-50 NIT second round win over St. John’s.

“I am grateful for the opportunity given to me by Coach Bennett and his staff,” Barnette wrote in a news release from UVA. “I will miss all of the great people I have had the opportunity to live life with this past year, especially all of my awesome teammates.”
