The Virginia men’s basketball team has added a fourth recruit for the 2014-15 season.
Coach Tony Bennett announced Monday that guard Marial Shayok has signed a financial aid agreement with the Wahoos’ basketball program.
Shayok, who is from Ottawa Canada, originally signed a National Letter of Intent with Marquette. He was released from his commitment when Buzz Williams left the school to take the same job at Virginia Tech.
Shayok was named the New Jersey Prep Player of the Year after leading Blair Academy to the Prep A state championship. He averaged 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists per game.
“We are fortunate to add Marial to this year’s recruiting class,” Bennett wrote in a statement. “Marial is a versatile, team player who is skilled and athletic. We believe he will be a great addition to our program.”
The 6-foot-6-inch Shayok joins center Jack Salt (New Zealand), guard B.J. Stith (Oak Hill Academy), and forward Isaiah Wilkins (Lilburn, Ga.) as incoming freshmen for the 2014-15 season.
