CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -

The University of Virginia men’s basketball team is ranked No. 24 in the Associated Press preseason poll.

This is the first time the Wahoos have cracked the AP’s top 25 poll since being ranked No. 11 to start the 2001-02 season. This is the first time UVA has been in the rankings altogether since Feb. 27, 2012 when they were No. 24.

Duke (No. 4), Syracuse (No. 8), North Carolina (No. 12), and Notre Dame (No. 21) are the ACC’s other ranked teams.

Also of note, Virginia Commonwealth is ranked No. 14 and Cave Spring graduate Gregg Marshall’s Wichita State Shockers are No. 16.

UVA opens the season Nov. 8 in Charlottesville against James Madison University. The Cavaliers return seniors Joe Harris and Akil Mitchell. The Wahoos were picked to finish fourth in the ACC.
