The University of Virginia Women’s Soccer team lost to UCLA 2-1 in penalty kicks Friday night in the NCAA College Cup Semifinals. After a scoreless first half, with no shots on goal, UVA took the 1-0 lead when Makenzy Doniak beat Bruin’s keeper, Katelyn Rowland in the 72nd minute. UCLA tied things up in the 85th minute on a goal by Ally Courtnall, which sent the game into overtime.

After two scoreless extra periods it came down to penalty kicks. UVA and UCLA both made their goals in the first two rounds, but a miss from Virginia’s Alexis Shaffer, saved by Rowland, opened the door for the Bruins. UVA’s Jessie Ferrari made a save right after, but a second miss in a row for Virginia set-up UCLA for the win. Rosie White made her shot in the 5th round to seal the victory for the Bruins.

Virginia’s season comes to an end at (24-2), while UCLA advances to the NCAA Championship game where they will face Florida State on Sunday.
