The Virginia Tech softball team had to sweat out a few anxious moments Sunday night but eventually the Hokies saw their name pop up in the NCAA bracket. Tech heads to Knoxville where the Hokies get Lipscomb in Friday's opener.
Charleston Southern and host Tennessee make up the other half of the bracket. The Hokies are happy to be in the tournament after losing to Notre Dame in the semis of the ACC Tournament last weekend.
And Knoxville is a familiar place for Tech. Coach Scot Thomas's teams have been there in 5 of their 7 NCAA Tournament trips.
The JMU Dukes will represent the Commonwealth as well this weekend. Bath County product Jailyn Ford and her Dukes teammates are headed to the Lexington, Kentucky Regional where they draw Depaul in the opener on Friday.
The Dukes, the CAA Champs, beat Depaul earlier in the season and swept a doubleheader from Virginia Tech back on April 2nd in Blacksburg.
