GREENSBORO, N.C. -

The Virginia Tech football team was picked to finish third in its division and defending national champion Florida State was the overwhelming pick to repeat as ACC champion in a preseason poll released Monday.

Miami and Duke were picked to finish ahead of Virginia Tech in the Coastal Division. The University of Virginia was picked to last in the Coastal Division.

Florida State also was chosen to win the Atlantic Division, followed by Clemson and ACC newcomer Louisville.

Seminoles quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston was the preseason pick to win the ACC’s Player of the Year. Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore Brenden Motley, a Christiansburg native, received one vote for ACC’s preseason Player of the Year. He has never taken a snap for the Hokies.
