Area high school seniors can apply for either the Roy Stanley or Billy McBride Jr. scholarships between now and Dec. 17.

Each year the RSM foundation awards three, one-time $1,000 scholarships based on need and academic qualifications. One is awarded to a deserving athlete in any sport, one is awarded to student interested in pursuing a career in media or journalism, and one is open to any area senior based on need and academic qualifications.

The Billy McBride Jr. scholarship is awarded to an area senior who intends on playing golf at the college level, or pursuing a golf-related career.

Roy Stanley was a long-time fixture at WDBJ7 as a sports reporter/anchor who passed away suddenly from cancer.  Billy McBride Jr. was the long-time pro at Hanging Rock Golf Club in Salem who was also instrumental in establishing the RSM Foundation.  Both men believed in the power and results of giving young people help and these scholarships help keep both their names alive.

The deadline for the applications is at 10 a.m. Monday, December 17.  Full instructions are included on each application.
