Virginia men's basketball coach Tony Bennett likes the chances that Mike Scott will stick in the pros for one key reason -- a translatable skill, that midrange jumper of his, that should carry over to the NBA.

On Thursday Scott will find out what the league thinks of his talents, during the NBA Draft.

The forward led the Cavaliers in scoring and rebounding this year, averaging 18 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.

In a teleconference Monday, Scott said he has worked out for 15 different teams, plus a couple showcases including the NBA Combine in Chicago.

Different mock drafts have him as a second round pick or maybe late first. On Monday Scott talked about whether being a first-round pick matters to him or not.

"It matters and it doesn't. Of course it matters, that guaranteed contract and it shows the respect you have from the team that picks you that you're up there with the top 30 players in the draft," Scott said. "I'll just be grateful for my name to be called, whether it's first or second round. I know I deserve to be in the first round but we'll see from there."

Scott said he plans to watch the draft at home in Chesapeake with family and close friends. He also said the afro and cornrows he rocked at times this year with Jontel Evans are not coming, saying that was a one time thing.
