The Big South Conference is moving its men's and women's basketball tournaments to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
VisitMyrtleBeach.com will be the new title sponsor for both events. All 12 member schools will compete in the tournament over a six day period, culminating with the championship games on March 10th.
The tournament will be played at Coastal Carolina's new 3,200-seat arena.
The last time both tournaments were held at the same venue at the same time was back in 2002 here in Roanoke.
“Certainly the destination, number one you take a look at that and everybody feels like having a destination as a location for the basketball championship can be successful but beyond that, what we look for in these bids is support from the community and it was very clear to us that the community was really going to embrace this event and support it well and so we felt very comfortable with it being successful here,” said Big South commissioner Kyle Kallander.
