James Johnson's basketball staff at Virginia Tech is starting to take shape.
WDBJ7 learned Tuesday night that Mark Byington is returning to the area, reuniting with his old office mate at the College of Charleston. Byington had a stellar playing career at Salem High School and UNC-Wilmington, and at one time was the director of operations for Pete Gillen at UVA.
Also, coming home is Ramon Williams, the William Fleming product and former VMI star. Ramon has worked at Richmond and Depaul, and most recently was on the staff at Ohio University, helping get the Bobcats to this year's Sweet 16.
Navy's associate head coach Kurt Kanaskie is expected to get a spot on the staff as well. Kanaskie is a former head coach at Drake and an old colleague of Johnson's from Penn State. All of these hires are pending the proper HR paperwork.
