The North Cross Boys Soccer team got some national recognition Thursday morning, being awarded the Army National Guard national ranking trophy.
The school held a ceremony this morning to honor its 24-0, state championship soccer team, for being ranked 13th in the country by Maxpreps. The Raiders won their second state title in the program's history this past season, and were one of 10 schools being honored on the Maxpreps Tour of Champions. They were ranked out of 1,400 public and private school teams in the country, and for Coach James Brown and his team, it's a tremendous honor.
"When I first heard about it I was really just in awe because of the number of teams that are involved in it,” Brown said. “You know, 14,000 teams. The biggest thing for me is how exciting it is for my kids. That's out of public schools, private schools and I said yeah, that's everybody in the whole country so I think that for our program as small of a school we are that it says a lot about the character of our team and the type of season that we had. That'll help get us on the map in Virginia and hopefully draw some more local kids and show that Northcross does play great soccer."
