ROANOKE CO., Va.—
Blue Ridge District softball over at Northside Tuesday night, where the Vikings had won seven in a row entering the night. Northside went up 9-nothing thanks to a Brie Pinero 3-run homer and the left arm of Ruthie Williams.
Williams was dealing, trying to complete her first no hitter of the year.
But Staunton River was not going down without a fight. In the top of the 7th, Carol Rice broke up the no-no with a shot through the infield.
Two batters later Williams lost the shutout as well. Michaela Hiett's bases loaded hit got the Eagles on the board.
It was still a fantastic outing for Williams, who got the complete game win. She had 10 strikeouts, and was 3 for 3 at the plate as well.
Northside won it 9 to 1.
