PGA Tour Professional Shaun Micheel won the 2003 PGA Championship and finished as the runner-up in 2006. He also lost his mother to cancer in October of last year, so Monday he passed up a chance to try to qualify for the U.S. Open in favor of a trip to the Water's Edge Country Club in Penhook to Swing Fore a Cure, the American Cancer Society's fundraiser for cancer research. To date, the event has raised nearly a million dollars for the cause.
