ROANOKE, Va.—
The City of Roanoke appears to be one step closer to the return of hockey. Northern Professional Hockey League commissioner Chuck Harrison and director of marketing development Mike Chighisola have been in town for about a week as support continues to build for a team here in the Valley.
An ownership group is in place, but a lease agreement still needs to be reached with the Roanoke Civic Center.
The group is apparently pretty optimistic about that happening because today they named former Roanoke Express goalie Daniel Berthiaume as the team's head coach. Bert, who starred for the team for six seasons, still lives at Smith Mountain Lake.
For fans that are interested in hearing more about the team, there will be a town hall style question and answer session Tuesday night with Harrison and Chighasola at Break Time Sports bar inside the Days Inn off of Plantation Road from 7 to 10 p.m.
