The Roanoke Valley Hokie Club held its annual kickoff dinner at the Hotel Roanoke.
Coach Beamer was in attendance with his wife, Cheryl who made her first public appearance since her accident earlier this summer.
The special guest was longtime CBS sports reporter, and the first woman broadcaster to be recognized by the NFL Hall of Fame, Lesley Visser.
She was introduced by our own Chris Miles. Lesley is a Boston College grad.
"When I first got here, I said Chris this is so gorgeous don't ever take it for granted. The whole country loves Frank Beamer and I deal with all of your guys when they get to the NFL. I told the story of Scott Peoli of the Kansas City Chiefs, he said if we could have thirty five players like Brandon Flowers from Virginia Tech we would be set. And I said that is the type of player that comes from Virginia Tech and has played for Frank Beamer," said Visser.
