The folks at the Martinsville Speedway are busy getting ready for their spring race weekend April 5-7, and so are the actual drivers.
On Tuesday at the Speedway, truck testing was the order of the day after the morning rain showers moved out.
Among the drivers taking some laps, two guys with pretty solid racing pedigrees -- Bill Elliott's son Chase, and Ward Burton's son Jeb.
Burton made his debut at Martinsville last year and is racing the full truck schedule this year, starting with a top five finish at Daytona.
Elliott hadn't seen Martinsville before Tuesday morning and both are out to one up their famous fathers. Neither of their dads won a Sprint Cup event at Martinsville.
“I think he's my dad and I'm me and I'm trying to make a name for myself, so I'm gonna do my best no matter what,” Chase Elliott said. “When our dads were racing, things were a lot different. There wasn't Twitter or Facebook.
Jeb Burton said: “On the racetrack he helps me as much as he can. Sometimes it's a battle between us. I think Chase has probably done the same thing, but you know he wants the best for me and I know chase's dad does too, and they support us a lot.”
In all seven Camping World Truck Series drivers were on hand to test for the upcoming Kroger 250.
Along with Elliott and Burton, defending series champ James Buescher was on hand. It's been a whirlwind couple of months for Buescher since winning the title.
“It doesn't feel that much different when I go to the racetrack as far as the racing side of it, but when it comes to media stuff there's more of it so far this year,” Buescher said. “Daytona was a long week for me. It's what we set out to do is win championships. And to be able to do it with such a young team says a lot about the people we have at this organization, Turner Scott Motorsports.”
