Two Virginia Tech walk-on football players have been sentenced to community service for detonating a homemade device during a prank last month.
Joshua Trimble and Brian Rody were sentenced Thursday after a Montgomery County judge found them guilty of a reduced charge of destruction of property. Media outlets report they were ordered to perform 100 hours of community service apiece. A 30-day jail sentence was suspended.
Police said nobody was injured when the device went off near a Blacksburg apartment on Dec. 2. Trimble and Rody were suspended after their arrests.
Rody was a scout team quarterback, while Trimble was a reserve linebacker and special teams player. Both were redshirt freshman during the 2012 season.
