The Wood Brothers took the Nascar world by storm in 2011, winning the Daytona 500 with rookie Trevor Bayne behind the wheel. The Patrick County natives are back at the beach this week, hoping to write another chapter in their racing lore.
The Wood Brothers have a rich history in racing, and fans at the World Center of Racing this week can get a taste of it in the FanZone, this replica of the car the Woods won the 1963 Daytona 500 with, a Galaxie that had Tiny Lund behind the wheel.
"I've made about eight trips over there so far to look at it," said Wood Brothers Co-Owner Len Wood. "Leonared, the same guy that fixed it fifty years ago, fixed that one, so it's pretty special."
This is the 50th anniversary of Lund's win on the superspeedway, two years removed from Bayne's heroics there. His car's paint scheme this week is modeled after the '63 car.
