Redfield: Mabel Marzahn, 99, of Redfield, S.D., died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Tulare United Church in Tulare, S.D. Pastor Lorah Houser-Jankord will officiate.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, rural Tulare.
Visitation will be held Sunday 2-8 p.m., with an Eastern Star Service at 5 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield, thelenfuneralhome.com.
Mabel Victoria Marzahn was born June 17, 1912, in Great Bend Township to Sanfrid and Clara (Johnson) Lunstrum. She attended school in Redfield for 12 years, graduating in 1931. She worked as domestic help in Minneapolis, Minn.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; and Ridgewood, N.J.
She married Earl F. Marzahn on Dec. 17, 1941, in Redfield and they farmed with his father in the Tulare area. They moved from the farm into Tulare in December 1967.
Mabel has been very active in her church and Faith Women's group, the Order of Eastern Star in Tulare and past Matron's Club.
Mabel enjoyed helping with the children's 4-H activities and projects, writing letters, gardening, working in the yard and embroidery work.
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Sandra Kyle, of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and two sons, Loren (Cynthia) Marzahn of Redfield and Gordon Marzahn of Redfield (special friend Evy Ost, Bassett, Neb.); five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; two halfbrothers, Anton and Carl Lunstrum; and two halfsisters Ida Erickson and Helen Edwards.
