Fundraiser set

Centro Latino will host a Cinco de Mayo celebration from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday at Weisiger Park. The event will include food, music, zumba and activities for children.

Centro Latino is a United Way Community Partner that sponsors scholarships for Hispanic/Latino students, an after-school tutoring program with Centre College, and provides interpreting services and transportaiton for medical appointments.

Myrtle’s on Main closing in May

Myrtle’s on Main will close at the end of May. Store owner Alison Craig said she will be offering discounts on the store’s merchandise through the end of the month. 

Store hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Craig will continue painting and decorating for people, as well as her design work.

Groups join to present youth art

The Arts Commission of Danville Boyle County is collaborating with the Community Arts Center and Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center to host the annual Youth Art Fair May 3–10 at the Community Arts Center on Main Streer. Elementary, middle and high school students from the Boyle County Schools, Danville Independent Schools, Kentucky School for the Deaf, Danville Montessori and Danville Christian Academy will  exhibit artwork. 

“The Arts Commission is excited to be able to exhibit student work in the Community Arts Center again this year,” said ACDBC board member and Youth Art Fair coordinator Jane Dewey. 

The Youth Art Fair is held annually in conjunction with the High School Artist Project sponsored by Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. An opening reception will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday.

 

Community Education offers Movie Maker class

Learn the basics of the Microsoft Movie Maker software 6-9 p.m. May 8 at Danville High School. Participants will learn to create picture and video projects in this training session. 

Items covered in the class include how to insert pictures and video, add transitions and titles/credits, overlay the project with music or sound, edit the project and how to finalize a movie so it can be shared. 

Participants are encouraged to bring flash drive or CD with video files or photos. Instructor is David Cook. Cost is $25.

Meetings

Garrard County Fiscal Court — 9 a.m. Wednesday at the courthouse for a called meeting to include first reading of the 2012-13 budget and executive session to discuss pending litigation.

Harrodsburg City Commission — 6 p.m. Thursday at the City Hall library for a called meeting to conduct a budget workshop including discussion of a wish list for department supervisors, possible cost of living raise for employees, grant applications and costs of special projects.
