  9. Patt Morrison Asks: Canon lawyer, Bert Fields

Who wrote Shakespeare? Sounds like "Who's buried in Grant's tomb?" Yet about 150 years ago, people on both sides of the Atlantic began asking how an otherwise obscure William Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon could have crafted the most brilliant works in the English language. Most scholars regard this as an annoying sideshow; and only more annoying now that the film "Anonymous" has been released, purporting that Shakespeare was just a front for the pen and brain of the Earl of Oxford.

  21. Kentucky School for the deaf is rich in history

Did you know that in 1929 Kentucky School for the Deaf purchased a custom-made school bus to take students on outings and to ball games?  It had seats along the sides to allow the students to communicate with each other across the aisle. Did you know that in 1874 Kentucky School for the Deaf began publishing a weekly in-house newspaper, the Kentucky Deaf-Mute, to give the male students an opportunity to learn the printing trade? KSD published the newspaper continuously from 1874 to 2004 with only a name change in 1895 — to the Kentucky Standard. Did you know that Jacobs Hall, the National Landmark building on Danville’s Second Street, was built as a dormitory for the older girls? Completed in 1857, the total cost of construction was $39,150.44.
