  5. Layered with love

My father, a former engineer, looks at the tape measure, scowls and keeps rolling the dough. My mother starts picking at it, which draws more scowling. There's a tension in the room. Perhaps the new dough recipe should have been tested before being handed the ball in such a big moment? After all, this is the Major Leagues of Thanksgiving. Most of the assembled party uses the arrival of Skylar, my 6-month old cousin, as an excuse to abandon the bickering in the kitchen.

  7. Jean Brody recalls Thanksgivings past

Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday and there are several reasons for this.
Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday and there are several reasons for this. One is I like the idea that no gifts are expected and that takes care of the commercial dichotomy that Christmas presents for me. The second reason is that, for...

  13. Review: 'Deadfall' runs hot and cold

Like the deer in the headlights that opens the thriller "Deadfall," this is a film about the tragic consequences of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Bad roads, bad weather, bad family dynamics are equally problematic. And when Olivia Wilde's...

  15. Miss Kay Robertson talks “Pirducken” and how “Duck Dynasty” does Christmas

    Channel Guide Magazine
Leave it to the Roberston family to decide a turducken just isn't enough animal for one meal. The Duck Dynasty clan took the notorious holiday trifecta of a chicken stuffed into a duck that is then stuffed into a turkey, and shoved the whole shooting...

  17. Bill proposes to close retailers on Thanksgiving in Missouri

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Holiday shopping got its earliest start ever this year with people hitting the big box stores like Target and Walmart on Thanksgiving Day.  But if a state representative from the St. Louis area gets his way, that practice could change.

If you stayed put this Thanksgiving, you weren't home alone. Despite experts projecting a slight increase in travel, it appears Maryland's busiest highways were a little less crowded. Superstorm Sandy may have had a role in spoiling holiday plans....

  23. Gobbling up post-Thanksgiving deals

And by post-Thanksgiving, I mean literally right after Thanksgiving dinner. After a day of rest and giving thanks, families were left with satisfied stomachs and insatiable shopping appetites. Lucky for those consumers, several stores began Black Friday extra early; Walmart and Sears started their holiday deals at 8 p.m. on Thursday, while Target opened its doors to eager shoppers at 9 p.m. Other retail giants including Macy’s and Best Buy opted to host their sales in traditional midnight-madness style.
