This winter season’s first flurries and ice had caused a large number of crashes on Nov. 12, including 17 between 9:45 p.m. and 10:45 p.m.
Dhirajial Ratanpara was standing outside his car after a collision just west of Gary Avenue in Schaumburg when he was hit, the Tribune reported at the time.
The lawsuit states the man’s first name was spelled Dilarajal, although public records and the medical examiner’s office indicated the former spelling.
Ratanpara, of the 1400 block of Sutter Drive in Hanover Park, was pronounced dead at 1:37 a.m. Nov. 13 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The family is suing Teresa Arroyo for one count of wrongful death and another for the physical and mental suffering endured by Ratanpara before his death, the lawsuit states. The family is asking for at least $50,000.
Ratanpara is survived by his wife, Minakumari Ratanpara; a daughter, Rima Koradia; and a son, Ashit Ratanpara.
