While making your weekend plans, don't forget to include Monday night.
Japanese-born Takashi Yagihashi is hosting a special dinner Monday at Takashi restaurant (1952 N. Damen Ave.) to benefit the victims of Japan's earthquake and subsequent tsunami. And a host of Chicago's top chefs are joining in.
The all-star lineup features Jimmy Bannos and Jimmy Bannos Jr. (Heaven on Seven, Purple Pig), Sebastien Canonne (French Pastry School), John Hogan (Keefer's), Paul Kahan (Blackbird, Publican, et. al.), Bill Kim (Urban Belly, Belly Shack), Tony Mantuano (Spiaggia, Terzo Piano), Mindy Segal (Mindy's Hot Chocolate), Sarah Stegner and George Bumbaris (Prairie Grass Cafe, Prairie Fire), Dean Zanella (Rhapsody) and Andrew Zimmerman and Emmanuel Nony (Sepia).
If that sounds like a lot of star power for Takashi's small kitchen, you're correct. Indeed, some of the participating chefs will be acting as waiters. Eating Paul Kahan's food while Mindy Segal waits on you (or the other way around)? Who could pass that up, knowing that the money is going to a great cause?
The cost is $200 for the early (5 and 5:30 p.m.) and late (9:30 and 10 p.m.) seatings, and $250 for seatings between 6 and 9 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant: 773-772-6170.
