  21. National test of emergency broadcast system happens this afternoon

    &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The FCC is mandating that all local stations, broadcast networks,&nbsp;cable systems, direct broadcast&nbsp;satellite distribution sources and "wireline" (Telco) video service providers participate in this test. The FCC is stating that the test will last <strong>approximately</strong> <strong>thirty seconds</strong>, but due to the nature of the EAS test, it is impossible to predict the exact duration.&nbsp; The test is scheduled to happen at 2:00 p.m. but you may see it later that as the message is relayed through the national network.
