  1. 11/4/2011-Where Do They Find These Executives?

Several years ago, I made Homer Simpson the head of Northeast Utilities over a different fiasco. Well, Homer's back, but this may be the last time I can use that metaphor for the world's most incompetent power plant manager. Word's out that this season may be the last for "The Simpsons." I guess the voice talent wants too much money to renew their contracts. It seems the stories and scripts lately are kind of tired anyway. Maybe the Harvard kids are going to other TV shows now. Too bad. "The Simpsons" was one of my favorites for a long time.

  3. Towns Seething On 7th Night Without Power; CL&P Pledges 99 Percent Restoration By Sunday Night; Some Town Officials Simply Don't Believe It

As mayors and first selectmen were seething Friday on the seventh night without power for many homeowners in their towns, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy ordered an independent review of the response by state electric companies to a freak pre-Halloween storm that...

  7. CL&P's Profit Jump, Staffing Levels Will Draw Scrutiny

    The Hartford Courant
The ranks of line crews at Connecticut Light & Power Co. are so thin that it's not unusual for workers to be on call eight out of 13 weekends, especially during the summer vacation season, a longtime line worker said. "It puts a lot of pressure on your...

  9. Snowstorm Upsets Campaign Calculus

    The Hartford Courant
Politics-as-usual ended Oct. 29 when the snow started falling. The unusual October snowstorm and the widespread power failures it caused ruined the traditional get-out-the-vote push in the last week before Election Day. There wouldn't be any knocking on...

  11. CL&P Union Leaders: Staffing Too Low, Executive Pay Too High

    The Hartford Courant

  13. How Could CL&P Not Know What We Were In For?

    The Hartford Courant
The first priority is to get the electricity back on and to make sure all citizens, particularly elderly residents living alone, are safe. But it's also time to ask what Connecticut Light & Power was doing in the days and hours before the storm when a...

  15. CL&P Says Plenty Of Power Restored; Butler Says 97 Percent With Power After Storm Worse Than Irene

After getting blasted repeatedly by mayors, first selectmen, and his own customers for the past week, embattled utility president Jeffrey Butler spent time Monday night giving perspective on the intensity of the pre-Halloween storm and the difficulty to...

  17. Malloy Talks Tougher About CL&P, Mentions Possible 'Malfeasance'

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, in a State Capitol press conference, used tough words against CL&P Monday – mentioning the possibility of “malfeasance” by the company, for example – and said his administration would be sure “that...

  19. Malloy requests that banks play nice. That's wrong. He should tell them.

Lost in the righteous anger toward Connecticut Light & Power last week was Gov. Dan Malloy's soft request of banks across the state to do the right thing. Listen, he essentially said, people are out of power and have been handicapped for days. A lot of them manage their finances online. Many haven't been able to pay their mortgages, car payments, student loans, etc. So do us all a big favor — don't charge any late fees right now.

We the peeps of Connecticut have been angry at Northeast Utilities and CL&P, justifiably so, in my opinion. But there is one group of people we are not angry with, in fact, we are grateful to.
