    Coppin State University has a serious problem with very low rates of student retention and graduation. Last December, the University System of Maryland Board of Regents created a Special Review Committee to look into this problem further and make recommendations. This is of special interest to me, as I served as a member of the faculty at Coppin for 12 years, from 1999 until 2011, including service as Faculty Senate president in 2005-2007.

  12. Morgan steps back from the brink

    Now that Morgan State University's board of regents has backed off an earlier decision not to renew President David Wilson's contract beyond this year, both sides have gained some breathing space in which to reconsider their relationship and how they can work together more effectively to meet the most important challenges facing the school. They should use this time to establish better communications between the president and the board and to lay out long-term, mutually agreed-upon goals that move the institution forward.
