Located in Blacksburg, Virginia, Virginia Tech is a comprehensive, innovative research university with the largest full-time student population (25,000+ full-time students) in the state. The school was founded in 1872 as a land-grant college named Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. On April 16, 2007 a student gunman there killed 32 people and wounded many more before committing suicide.
