3. Character Crushes: Who Do You Love? (Spoiler Alert: Eric Northman)

I write this after my third viewing of this week's "True Blood." Why did I watch the HBO show three times? Was it because of the intricate "Lost"-like plot? (Um, noes because said intricacy does not exist in this soapy show. It's about as obvious as you can get.)

  7. 'Ashes to Ashes' on BBC America

“Ashes to Ashes,” which premieres tonight on BBC America, is a sequel to “Life on Mars,” the 2006 series whose American remake ABC has just canceled. It's an unlikely thing, given that the first series' main character killed himself in the final episode (though perhaps survived in another reality) and that all the other characters were (possibly) figments of his imagination. But it's in that "perhaps" and "possibly" that "Ashes to Ashes" finds a way forward, and although it's not as good as the original, it pushes many of the same buttons and sews on a few new ones. It's quite enjoyable.

FOX's singing competition show "American Idol" may be very popular on the sets of "Law & Order," "Criminal Minds" and "24," but it's unlikely that the writers on these serious dramas would be able to have as much fun with their obsession as have "Psych" creator Steve Franks and star James Roday.
