  1. Wind energy gets preliminary OK

    The Baltimore Sun
Gov. Martin O'Malley's bill to subsidize and encourage development of an offshore wind project near Ocean City cleared a hurdle Thursday in the Maryland Senate. If the bill receives final passage and a private developer builds a wind farm, Maryland...

  3. Delegate opposes governor's wind plan [Letter]

Editor: I know this story may be hard to believe, but the Governor wants to construct 40 wind turbines that are 80 stories high (think: Baltimore's tallest building) and 20 miles out in the ocean. This has never been done before. The cost of this...

  5. Senate committee switch could spring wind bill

UPDATE: An earlier version of this article described the two senators as opponents of death penalty repeal. They are both considered proponents of repeal. A change in the membership of a key Maryland Senate committee could hand Gov. Martin O'Malley a...

  7. Nuclear blows away wind

The primary motivation among environmentalists for developing wind energy is legitimate concern about the effects of climate change. Wind is alleged to provide important relief from the emission of carbon dioxide from electricity production. But without this alleged benefit, wind's unpredictability, cost, environmental damage and intrusiveness would make it a poor choice. The Maryland General Assembly has debated offshore wind's merits for two sessions but has not been persuaded to approve a way to finance a facility, and is about to debate it once again.

  9. Don't let offshore wind fizzle

The sentiment of the commentary, "Nuclear blows away wind" (Feb. 1) worries me. As a District of Columbia resident, I see Maryland as a leader capable of bringing offshore wind to the entire region. First, offshore wind farms will not be developed if...

  11. Maryland needs wind power

It is with great interest that I read The Sun's article, "O'Malley to push for wind yet again," (Jan. 13) but I don't understand the opposition. Some opponents say wind farms would "look bad." Funny, how windmills in Holland are considered beautiful. More...

  13. Maryland can benefit from off-shore wind

Recent letters commenting on wind power don't appreciate the significant benefits offshore wind power will provide — not just for Maryland but all of America. Several land-based wind energy projects are already operating in Maryland, and these...

  19. Reducing carbon emissions a daunting task

Mike Tidwell is correct that the evidence for global climate change is indisputable and that carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels and alterations in the earth's ecosystems is the primary cause ("Forecast calls for pain," Feb. 6). Since the...

Your recent commentary on climate change continues the politically correct approach to the problem of global warming and its solutions without approaching the reality of what has been accomplished and what the underlying issues are ("Forecast calls for pain," Feb. 6).
