The general who commanded U.S. and international forces during the 2003 capture of Saddam Hussein is opening an annual insurance conference scheduled for October in Chicago, hosted by Windsor-based LIMRA.

Retired Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, former commander of U.S. and International Forces in Afghanistan and Joint Special Operations Command, will start the 96th annual insurance conference.

"In today's business environment, leaders are facing unprecedented challenges in a harsh economic environment and are expected accomplish what often seems to be impossible," said Robert Kerzner, president and CEO of LIMRA, LOMA and LL Global. "General McChrystal's experience, successfully navigating the demanding and unfamiliar conditions in Iraq and Afghanistan, will offer our members new insight on how to address unparalleled challenges they face today."

The conference typically draws more than 500 executives from companies around the globe that are members of LIMRA, an association of businesses in financial services who rely on the LIMRA's research and other services. The conference includes workshops and speakers addressing challenges in financial services and public policy issues affecting the industry.

In addition to the capture of Saddam Hussein, McChrystal was commander of U.S. and International Forces during the 2006 locating and killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq.
