    Spinal manipulation existed thousands of years ago, but it wasn’t until the 1890s the term chiropractic was adopted by practitioners of this technique. The term is rooted in the Greek words “praxis” and “cheir”, aka “hand” and “active” – terms that apply as much today as they did when the practice was first systematized by BJ Palmer in Iowa. He opened a school in the late 1890s and since then chiropractic techniques have been applied, studied and broadened to the point that medical insurance companies cover the cost of treatments.
